about

I have no idea why I decided to make an arrangement of "Fever". It’s been, arguably, performed and arranged far too many times, and probably the world didn’t need yet another version. I guess I started fooling around with the harmony at the very beginning and just kept going.

Fever is basically an arrangement for the New York Composer’s Orchestra, except that the original instrumentation is slightly reduced in the horns, and added to it is guitar, organ, and, if you can believe it, a taste of DX-7.

I rarely arrange other people's music, and I was really happy with how this came out. Bobby Previte plays the living daylights out of it, Stew Cutler is on guitar and sounds great, and Ray Anderson is truly stellar on the solo. There comes a point in my relationship with every trombone player, when I get to know them well enough, where I stop and say, “you’ve got to hear Ray Anderson’s solo on my arrangement.”

Remember that Some Places Are Forever Afternoon will be playing in Denver ( bit.ly/1S0Mzh9 ) and Albuquerque ( bit.ly/1WaXCUU ) this weekend.

And please take a look at this Hatchfund Campaign for the recording of my orchestra piece, “Those Who Remain”. I’d be honored if you chose to contribute.

I hope you enjoy the music!
