This week’s download is the first track from “At The Reception” (Songlines) entitled “A Walk in the Rain.”
Last week I posted a track for Jazz Orchestra that was written in the late 80’s, and featured my whole crew at the time, including Marty Ehrlich, Doug Wieselman, Ray Anderson, Sam Furnace, George Lewis, Bobby Previte, Steve Bernstein and many many more.
This track is from 2014, and includes my current crew in Seattle, as it were. Musicians that the whole world should know about including Beth Fleenor, Ryan Burns, Levi Gillis, Ivan Arteaga, Kate Olson, Greg Sinibaldi, Samantha Boshnack and my frequent rhythm section cohorts Eric Eagle and Geoff Harper. The list goes on and I can’t begin to mention all the truly remarkable, innovative, and proficient Seattle based musicians, many of them with truly individual concepts in addition to their excellent musicianship. Towards the top of that list is my friend and trombonist Naomi Siegel, who has been a true partner in my music these last few years, and is leaving us for greener pastures, well browner really (Missoula, Montana). We will miss her and hope she comes back to visit and play often.
She is featured here as a soloist, as is Skerik on tenor sax, who tours the world but always comes back to Seattle. Al Keith and Jacob Herring take us home at end during the double time coda.
